Disclosure: I was given a ticket to The Baby Show, a contribution towards travel expenses & two Fisher-Price toys, so that I could visit the show and learn more about the Laugh & Learn range.
Last weekend I attended The Baby Show in Kensington Olympia as a guest of Fisher-Price, and had a very long but very enjoyable day!
My day started at 6am, dragging the girls out of bed for an early breakfast, before catching the first of three trains before 8 from our local station. I met up with Emma (aka Mrs Shilts) for the last leg of the journey from Watford Junction – the last train was packed with pushchairs headed to the Olympia!
Upon entering the show I was impressed with the venue – compared to the NEC the Olympia is filled with natural light & feels very airy.
We headed to the MamaBabyBliss stand first of all to say some hellos, and met Holly Matthews (of Waterloo Road fame), who has been working with the brand to produce a new “Mama & BabyBliss CD”, which I will be reviewing here on my blog soon. The stand looked great with some lovely products on show, and some very comfortable gym balls on offer… I may have returned to rest my aching feet & have a restorative bounce on one later in the day!

After a lovely lunch & interesting presentation with Fisher-Price (including some fun playtime for Lydia complete with nutty children’s entertainer) we headed down to watch a bit of their Laugh & Learn show on the stage. Lydia was zonked out in the pushchair after her lunch and I was keen to keep her moving to make sure she got a decent kip, so I didn’t get to see the whole show.

It was great to see so many different brands at the show & I picked up a one or two little bargains for my girls too including a lovely new blanket for Lydia. I won a few prizes on the Count for Kicks tombola too, woohoo!
There were a few new products I hadn’t seen before there; I loved the look of the all seasons 7 months – 2.5 years “The Bag” baby sleeping bags from Puckababy, the Foam Bath Toys from Pipsy Koala, and the VeraTemp Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer from Syner-Med.
I also met “Inventor Tom” (Tom Pellereau from The Apprentice), as well as his sister Harriet who developed one of Georgie’s favourite iPad apps, Timmy Tickle. We had a lovely chat and discussed some interesting ideas for future products that could help make life a little bit easier for patents. I came home with one of Tom’s clever Nipper Clippers which promise to make trimming kids nails easier & safer, so I will be sharing my thoughts on that sometime soon.

It was fantastic to put faces to names for many of the people I have been emailing since beginning Mama Geek, and I welcomed the chance to thank so many of the great brands that donated prizes to my big birthday giveaway too. I enjoyed chatting to the folks from Sweet Dreamers, Nonabox, Funky Giraffe, and Little Green Sheep.
We didn’t get back into Birmingham New Street until half ten after a very long day, but I really enjoyed my day at The Baby Show so it was definitely worth it! Thankfully both babies slept on the train on the way home…

Look out for some reviews of products I picked up at the show soon, as well as a post discussing the new Fisher-Price/Childwise research that we were told about during lunch.
